WWE Royal Rumble 2012
- The Royal Rumble
This is, of course, the big one. In fact, it's the most famous match WWE has that they can never actually botch, though they've made their best efforts (1999 comes to mind). Who is going to win, or who deserves to, at least, is always an interesting debate that we get to rehash year after year. There have been rumblings for some time now that Randy Orton would be winning this year, what with his promise for another run at the title and the event taking place in his home town but because of his injury that would seem to throw that plan into question. Chris Jericho is another obvious choice but you never know. That's the beauty of it, though, right?
-- CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE championship (John Laurinaitis as special guest referee)
What we know is that John Laurinaitis has now outright admitted that his plan all along has been to screw Punk out of the title and he was going to do so in this match. Obviously, we're supposed to want to tune in to see if he's successful or if Punk is able to fend it off and keep his title. I would think that's the plan, seeing as I can't imagine Ziggler as champion past the Rumble. Punk vs. Laurinaitis is Austin vs. McMahon over a decade later, which means this thing is building to a match sooner or later. If Punk can keep cutting promos on him like he did last Monday night, that match will sell like hot cakes.
-- John Cena vs. Kane
It's difficult to feel invested in this entire feud because we can all see how it ends. Kane isn't going over here. Cena will once again rise above hate and be the superhero on the front of the Fruity Pebbles box as he gears up for his match at WrestleMania 28 against The Rock. Move along, folks, nothing to see here.
-- Daniel Bryan vs. Mark Henry vs. Big Show for the world heavyweight championship
Officially added last night, WWE will have to figure out a way for Bryan to retain his title without actually letting him get a clean pinfall victory. Or at least that's what they've been doing as of late. Unless, of course, they plan on having him lose the title here. The only reason they would do that is if they don't trust having Bryan as champion heading into WrestleMania, or even the extended build to it, which is entirely possible. The problem is they continued booking Henry after he got injured and he's looked weak ever since losing the title. Show is solid but will never be a top draw as champion. The good news is 'Mania this year is big enough that the world heavyweight title picture won't mean nearly as much as the other big matches on the card but that just feels cheap more than anything. It shouldn't be that way.
This could very well be the complete match card and line-up for the Royal Rumble next Sunday night, Cagesiders. Last year's show had just four matches, though the Rumble had 40 participants instead of 30. How's everything look to you?

You forgot to mention...
that Bryan vs. Henry vs. Big Show is a steel cage match. If you
can win by escaping, that’ll make it a little easier for Bryan to
retain. And, man, do I ever hope he does. I can’t see this storyline
going well if he doesn’t.

Bryan needs a good heel victory at a PPV to finalize his heel
turn and you can’t just cut bait with him now without really hurting his
legitimacy.
Much as I love the guy, his legitimacy is pretty close to zero for everyone who hasn't watched old ROH DVD's.
The only thing he can do at this point is to make people hate
him enough to not notice how lowly WWE places him on the totem pole.

You're really doing yourself a disservice by not seeing at least one Danielson-ROH match.
Danielson’s matches with Takeshi Morishima are the only other
big man/little man matches I’d put on the level of the Undertaker/Shawn
Michaels series. In particular their matches at Manhattan Mayhem II and
Final Battle 2008, both are easily the best matches in each year they
happened.
He’ll be fine unless WWE goes out of their to make him look like a complete goober, the problem is, that’s probably going to be what happens.

It's definitely something I know I need to see
I am far behind on matches I need to see. Too much of my time is in other directions
But my point was that I think he is too good to be burned. He is taking what WWE is giving him and he is playing the part to perfection. He does have the WHC, which even if it’s importance as been diminished, is still the top belt on SD

I'll probably catch the show with a friend.
If only to see weather or not the awesomeness of the Rumble and
another Punk/Ziggler match will make up for the suck that will be Big
Show/Henry/Danielson and Cena/Kane.
Danielson will make it good and Show and Henry can provide Holy
Sh moments. I wonder what the Cena marks will say after he has a fail
of a match, when he has no one to carry him.
Danielson is the best today, but he's not good enough to make up for both Show and Henry.
Even if both Show and Henry were at their best health they
could realistically be, it wouldn’t be a good match. Take into account
that both Henry and Show are hurt, and the fact with Wrestlemania two
months away, both guys are going to have to work at the most gingery
level they can in order to make good on their schedule and score a big
payday, and even asking for a two star match would be much.
There’s been one Henry/Show match that was even three stars, and it relied on breaking the ring at the end of the match, and having Big Show come back from his annual vacation as healthy, thin, and injury free as he can be today. Every other Show/Henry match was a one star fiesta of shit, and all three of the other Show/Henry matches happened when neither Show nor Henry were injured. Expecting anything from this is delusional.
