14 Blades back in first place

The Blenheim Blades are back atop the crowded North Division standings in the Great Lakes Junior 'C' Hockey League.


Tyler Clarke scored twice Sunday as the Blades beat the Kingsville Comets 6-1 for their fifth consecutive home win.
The Blades are one point ahead of the Mooretown Flags and Alvinston Flyers.
The Flyers rallied from a 5-1 deficit to stun the Dresden Kings 6-5 in overtime.
However, the Kings' single point was enough to clinch a playoff berth.
On Saturday, the Flyers beat the Comets 6-5.
Blades 6, Comets 1
At Blenheim, Dylan Vanderpol made 15 saves as the Blades (20-14-1) outshot the Comets 47-16 in front of 278 fans.
John McKillop scored in the first period and Taylor Phillips scored 10 seconds into the middle frame for a 2-0 lead.
After Chris Marco replied for the Comets, Clarke potted back-to-back goals and Matt Fleury also scored for a 5-1 lead at the intermission.


Ben Campbell added a power-play goal late in the third.
League scoring leader Thomas Innes had three assists and Aidan Wiebenga had two.
Kyle Andrian made 41 saves for the Comets (8-27-2).
Flyers 6, Kings 5 (OT)
At Alvinston, Cody McPhail had a hat trick for the fourth-place Kings (14-18-4), who led 5-1 late in the second period.
Macks Holmes added two goals. Taylor Sisson, James Shelton, Derrick VanEvery and Brennan Rainey each had two assists.
Jake McPhail of the Flyers (18-15-4) scored with one second left in overtime.
Chris Edwards began the Flyers' comeback by scoring with eight seconds left in the second period.
Clint Rose, Chad VanEyk and Brett Dalton scored in the third. Dalton finished with two goals.
Dresden's Brent Paxton made 40 saves. Alvinston's James Morreau stopped all 14 shots he faced in relief of Reid Rankin, who gave up five goals on 31 shots.
Flyers 6, Comets 5
At Kingsville, Edwards scored two goals for the Flyers. Tanner Thompson, Dalton, Joe Archer and Dan Warner added singles.
Mark Sobocan led the Comets with a hat trick. Cody Ray and Andrew Meloche also scored.
