Shahrukh Khan versus Shirish Kunder - a bitter history
The fight between Shahrukh Khan and Shirish Kunder at a Juhu nightclub has left the film industry shocked. According to Kunder, Shahrukh cornered him along with his bodyguards and beat him up without any provocation. Kunder alleges that Shahrukh pulled his hair, punched and slapped him. How much truth is there Kunder’s allegation is still to be known, but there is no doubt that a fight between the two did take place at the party hosted by Sanjay Dutt.
Could the spat have been avoided? Shouldn’t the matters been resolved verbally? Here’s how things between Shahrukh and Shirish have been hotting up lately.
Shahrukh Khan and Farah Khan were thick as thieves for fourteen years and she made her directing debut in his production Main Hoon Na and followed it up with Om Shanti Om. But things soured between the two when Farah Khan, apparently prodded by her husband Shirish Kunder, roped in Akshay Kumar and not her favourite Shahrukh Khan for her movie Tees Maar Khan. That apparently sowed the seed of animosity between Shahrukh and Shirish.
Thereafter, Shahrukh and Farah ceased to be on talking terms, let alone meet each other. To rile Shahrukh further, Shirish Kunder became close to the Salman Khan camp. The rift was thus consummated, even though Shahrukh Khan did try to extend an olive branch to Farah Khan on two occasions.
But what ticked off Shahrukh was when Shirish Kunder panned his movie Ra.One on the release day itself.
“I just heard a Rs150 crore firework fizzle” Shirish Kunder had written about ‘Ra.One’ on his Twitter page, with a mocking addition “Ironically #StepsToSurviveAHorrorMovie is trending today!”
To rub salt to the wound, Shirish had added: “Bodyguard is trending...everything else is pending”.
Obviously, Shahrukh Khan wouldn’t have liked his dream project Ra.One being mocked this way, that too by a person he didn’t adore.
Buzz is that there has been rancour in the Shahrukh Khan camp against Shirish Kunder’s jibes at Ra.One. And presumably it all erupted on Sunday night at Sanjay Dutt’s party when Kunder apparently provoked Shahrukh Khan again. The result was Shirish Kunder walking out with a swollen face.
