Creamy, gooey, rich and decadent sinful Delectably - who can pass up the temptation of chocolate fondue?
Nothing says Valentine's Day love chocolate and fondue is a fun way to enjoy it.
A French word meaning "to melt", "actually began fondue in Switzerland as a way of day old bread, which began to harden to preserve," said Joe Villa, manager of The Melting Pot fondue restaurant in Red Bank. "Dunking the bread into melted cheese made it more palatable."
The cheese fondue frenzy began in the U.S. in the 1960 and 1970 and so is its extension to melted chocolate, "which is a natural medium for fondue, because people love to experiment with chocolate," Villa said.
"Many of our guests remember the fondue parties they had in the 1970s and fondue sets them as a wedding gift from the past," Villa said, but part of the allure of chocolate fondue is that it appeals to all ages. "Older guests will enjoy it because it's fun to go back again and that time and place, but the younger generation likes it, because it is so hands-on.
