Portland, Maine - Maine Republican Senator Olympia Snowe's decision to seek a fourth term leads to a potential race between Republican and Democratic candidates just two weeks before a deadline to 2000 to collect signatures to the June primary ballot.
Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree said Wednesday that she already is gathering signatures. Her Democratic House colleague, Rep. Mike Michaud, picked up petitions from the secretary of state's office.
On the Republican side, Scott D'Amboise (dam-BOYZ ') is the only candidate for now. But Foreign Minister Charlie Summers and Maine Senate President Kevin Raye, both considering the race.
