Defending S-League champions Tampines Rovers got their season off to the perfect start when they beat Singapore Cup winners Home United 2-0 in the Charity Shield on Sunday night.
Enticed by the offer of free entry and attractive lucky draw prizes like iPads and LCD television sets, a healthy crowd of 4,146 turned up at the Jalan Besar Stadium for the traditional curtain raiser as Tampines' new foreign imports impressed.
Playmaker Davor Piskor - a former teammate of Tottenham Hotspur and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric - headed in a goal for the Stags just after four minutes.
Macedonian midfielder Gligor Gligorov then wrapped up the win when he beat Home goalkeeper Lionel Lewis at his near post with a well-placed shot in the 61st minute.
